Perhaps someone you know has volunteered to
tape your wedding with a camcorder. Many
newlyweds wish they had hired a videographer
after relying on a relative or friend to
record their weddings.
One problem with
camcorder recordings of weddings is the use of
just one camera. The view never changes, and
viewing the playback can be boring. The
quality of the camera is not professional
caliber, the person operating it tends not to
have steady hands, and often cannot get into a
good location. The resulting video is poor
quality, wobbly, and is shot from too far
away. The bride’s entrance is never caught on
the video because the cameraman’s view of the
bride is obscured when everyone stands up.
Another problem with camcorder recordings of
weddings is the microphone. It’s designed to
pick up nearby sounds. When the ceremony is
played back, one can hear crying babies and
people coughing in the congregation, or even
the air system roaring, but it’s impossible to
hear the vows. Often, the audio sounds like
it’s echoing in the bottom of a barrel.
Time
and again we’ve heard from parents, friends,
or the couple themselves that the only
recording they have of their special occasion
was awful! And they can’t go back and do it
over again!
